Stores witness a mod of customers hours before Nike Stores open – a scene that Shinsegae Department Store in Daegu said was “scary” as people are “running like zombies,” The Korea Times reported.
The rush happened when some 30 Nike stores across the country got limited quantities of Nike’s Air Jordan 1 Low G sneakers on Jan. 14. The pair of shoes is priced at 179,000.
A hundred pairs of it are stocked at Shinsegae Department Store and some stores only had limited quantities.
“Nike Mania”, sneaker lovers’ online community, also shared updated how people struggled to get their pair in Daegu or Yeongdeungpo District in the capital. A store in Ilsandong District said they already sold out of the item.
There are some who bought the product for personal use but others just want to get the item and price it higher for resell.
There was also notable attention given to Nike’s line of golf shoes carrying the Jordan logo on different online resell venues in the country.
The largest online resale platform in Korea, Kream, sold out a total of 240 Jordan 1 Low G pairs of sneakers in just three hours. Each pair is priced at 634,000 won.
Customers can even go as high as 800,000 won to get the pair.
Unveiled in 2017, the Jordan 1 Retro Golf Cleat Chicago has been purchased lately for more than 2 million won. Meanwhile, Jordan 1 Retro High Off-White Chicago was purchased for 226, 000 won or 50 folds of its original price.
Many are drawn to the sneaker selling business as the high demand is sustained amid the rising prices. More people are also looking for gold shoes as the sports gained popularity during the pandemic.
