In the August Samsung Unpacked Event, Samsung Electronics Co. promised five gadgets in line through a livestream straight from South Korea. K-Pop legend and Samsung’s brand endorser BTS also pops in for a cameo to introduce the newest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.
Samsung Electronics Co. reached a record high pre-order of 80,000 units in South Korea which started last September 1, 2020, crushing insider expectations at 60,000 units. This unexpected pre order quantity has delayed the local launch of Galaxy Z Fold 2 to next week Wednesday which was originally scheduled this upcoming Friday. Nevertheless, Samsung will launch on schedule in other countries.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is one of the five devices introduced in the live streamed event held by Samsung earlier this August. Alongside the new Fold model are the Samsung Note 20 – the latest flagship model of the Note Series, Galaxy Buds Live, Galaxy Tab S7, and Galaxy Watch 3. Hyping up the event is a short (pre-recorded) cameo of K-Pop Legend BTS showing Jin, Suga, RM, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook playing around and snapping selfies with the Mystic Bronze Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 ahead of the release of their new song, Dynamite. BTS’ Golden Touch – a phenomenon of selling out everything they touch – has clearly put the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the forefront of options for a new device.
Although critics noted that 80,000 is not too much of a feat for a big brand like Samsung, it’s still quite a surprising number considering that this unit sells for 2.398 million won or $2,030 converted.
Here’s what you need to know about the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.
This new model comes in two different colors polished to a smooth satin luster: Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black. It also offers a custom hinge color designed to put some personality and color pop into your very own Galaxy Z Fold 2. This Hideaway Hinge is an advanced engineering marvel introduced by Samsung fusing it into touch screen devices taking the android experience to a whole new level. It’s also tested to last 200,000 folds. As Samsung describes its new device, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is tough on the outside and flexible on the inside. It’s cover screen is reinforced with polished Corning Gorilla Glass Victus which is the toughest Gorilla glass made to protect your device. It’s back cover is also made of Gorilla Glass.
But what makes this device different from all the ones in the market is its screen size. When folded, you can enjoy 6.2 inches of screen with Multi-Active Window enabling you to do simultaneous tasks – enjoying on-the-go while getting some work done. Unfolded, you can maximize its close to tablet size display of 7.6 inches of dynamic AMOLED 2X screen. It also has a shock absorbing, ultra thin folding glass. To make the experience better, Galaxy Z Fold 2 can also stand on its own and bend from 75 degrees to 115 degrees.
It’s built in with 256 GB of memory ready to store all your moments, favorite music and apps, and downloaded videos. It also runs smoothly with 12 GB RAM. Not only that, it’s also available on 5G allowing you HyperFast streaming and download and can also connect you to WiFi 6. Sharing is also made easier with Galaxy Z Fold 2’s Point to Share feature.
Its battery life is designed to last you for a day of connection with friends, gaming, and watching. And like all the new releases of the Galaxy Edge and Galaxy Note Series, this model is also equipped with SuperFast charging that can take your device to 100% before you even know it. But if you like the notion of wireless, it also got you covered with Fast Wireless Charging.
Although the device seems promising in all aspects, consumers should always note that the battery life of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is dependent on many usage factors but average users can maximize it up to a day. Additionally, wireless chargers are sold separately. Also, some applications may not support the Multi-Active window.
Among other news encircling the newest device, Samsung also extends its device activation period which is supposed to end today. Mobile carriers will provide services for the device until next Tuesday, September 22, 2020.
Samsung said, “We want to thank people’s great interest and support for the Galaxy Z Fold 2. We will do our best to minimize inconvenience for the customers who pre-ordered the device.”
You can take a look at the newest model through their website. And if you want to get a hold of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 but you do not have millions of won or thousands of dollars to spare at the moment, Samsung offers $25 payable in 48 months or $1,199.99 with eligible trade-in and Samsung Financing.
